"For too long, we have allowed everyone else to define the best of us as players. That ends now," a press release from the NFLPA states regarding the voting process. "This year, we made the call with the first Players' All-Pro Team. We asked players across the league to select who had the most impact this season. The players were tasked with voting for the best player at their same position and positions they line up against."
Bosa was one of two defensive ends selected for the award, along with Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns.
Now in his fourth NFL season, Bosa is in the middle of a dominant year for the 49ers, who will host the Seattle Seahawks in the opening round of the playoffs on Saturday. Appearing in 16 of San Francisco's 17 games, Bosa was the NFL's Sack King with a career-best 18.5 sacks to go along with 19 tackles for loss and 48 quarterback hits – statistics that were also among the league's best.
As it stands, Bosa is the favorite to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award, according to most sportsbooks across the country. He is in the running with defensive ends Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders and Garrett.
Should Bosa win the award, he would add the accolade to a trophy case with plenty of hardware he's earned while in the league, including the NFL's 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year and three Pro Bowl selections.
