Hamilton's deal builds upon a four-year, $4.82 million contract he signed with Jacksonville after the Jaguars drafted him with the No. 73 overall pick in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft. In three seasons with the Jags, the Pickerington, Ohio, native has made 44 appearances for the franchise, collecting 132 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
Last season, Hamilton appeared in all 17 games with 14 starts and played 53 percent of the team’s defensive snaps (610 total). Hamilton finished the year with 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits. In Jacksonville's two postseason games, he also had eight tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, and two pass deflections.
Before his NFL career started, Hamilton played five seasons at Ohio State from 2015-19. In that time, he appeared in 30 contests and collected 66 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three fumble recoveries and scored a touchdown. He was also named a third-team All-Big Ten honoree in his final year with the Buckeyes.
Hamilton's brother, Ty Hamilton, will be a senior at Ohio State in 2023 and is expected to be a frequent contributor to Larry Johnson's defensive line room along with JT Tuimoloau, Jack Sawyer, Mike Hall Jr. and Tyleik Williams.
