Avery Henry’s cancer is in remission.
The Ohio State offensive lineman, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in December, announced Thursday that his cancer is in remission after five months of treatments at Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital. Henry said he will be "officially done" with treatment after four more visits.

Henry celebrated the good news with a trip to the James Cancer Hospital on Wednesday alongside five of his Ohio State teammates – quarterback Kyle McCord and fellow offensive linemen Tegra Tshabola, Donovan Jackson, Josh Fryar and Carson Hinzman – where he encouraged other cancer patients to keep fighting.

Since receiving his diagnosis five months ago, Henry has received plenty of encouragement from his Ohio State coaches and teammates as he’s remained a part of the program even though he was unable to participate in football activities this spring.
“I told the guys after it happened, things like this give you perspective in life,” Ryan Day said in December. “And this is a reason why you get into coaching is to have an impact on young people and help Avery fight this battle. But like we talked about with his family, there's a reason why you're here, there's a reason why you're a Buckeye. And maybe because along the way, you needed the James hospital, you need Buckeye Nation, you need this team to help you win this fight, and we're here for you.”

Henry is entering his second year with the Buckeyes after redshirting his freshman season. With his cancer now in remission, Henry will look to begin the process of returning to the field for the Buckeyes, though it remains uncertain whether Henry will be cleared to play in 2023.
