When Ohio State faces Notre Dame this season, the Irish will have an alternate color scheme for their home uniforms.
Instead of its traditional blue, white and gold uniform, Notre Dame will wear green for its Week 4 showdown with the Buckeyes. And a lot of it.

Pictures posted by the Notre Dame football media team on Monday reveal the Irish will wear green jerseys, pants, cleats and gloves in the nonconference matchup, capped off by Notre Dame's trademark golden helmet, which the team wears in all its uniform concepts.
In addition to pictures of the uniform, the media team also released a video with Marcus Freeman that showed the Notre Dame head coach parody the Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr. comedy-drama "Jerry Maguire." Rather than shout, "Show me the money," Freeman repeats the refrain, "Show me the green jersey," to quarterback Sam Hartman and running back Audric Estime before the all-green uniforms are revealed.

According to Tyler Horka of On3, Notre Dame has fared well while wearing any green on their uniforms in the last 40 years, collecting a 10-6 record and wins in five consecutive contests dating back to a 45-21 road win over Maryland. The Irish most recently donned green jerseys in a home matchup with Cal in 2022 and squeaked out a narrow 24-17 win. It was the first time the program wore the alternates since 2018.

The most memorable time Notre Dame wore green was in 1977 when then-head coach Dan Devine special ordered the alternate jerseys for a matchup with USC. In what is now known as "The Green Jersey Game" at Notre Dame, future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana's four-touchdown performance led the No. 11 Irish to a 49-19 upset win over the No. 5 Trojans.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Ohio State is an 8.5-point favorite over Notre Dame for their matchup this fall, one year after the Buckeyes defeated the Irish 21-10 in the 2022 season opener at Ohio Stadium. This year, Ohio State will face off against Notre Dame on Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. on NBC and Peacock.
