Across The Shield is Eleven Warriors’ weekly recap of the best and most notable performances from former Ohio State players throughout the NFL.
Our Week 10 recap is highlighted by a quintet of Buckeyes – Cameron Heyward, Joey and Nick Bosa, Jonathon Cooper and Chase Young – combining for six sacks and Terry McLaurin having his fourth 100-yard game of the season.
Five Buckeyes combine for six sacks
Sunday was a big day for former Ohio State defensive ends in the NFL as five of them combined to record six sacks.
Cameron Heyward recorded his first two-sack game since 2022. The 14th-year Pittsburgh Steeler played a crucial role in his team’s 28-27 win over the Washington Commanders, helping force three punts with his two sacks as well as a third-down pass breakup.

Jonathon Cooper, fresh off of signing a four-year, $60 million contract extension with the Denver Broncos, had a productive game against the Kansas City Chiefs, tying his season-high with six tackles and sacking Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. His play put the Broncos in position to hand the Chiefs their first loss of the year until the Chiefs blocked the Broncos’ game-winning field goal attempt as time expired.
Both Bosa brothers recorded sacks in Week 10 with Joey Bosa recording the 70th sack of his NFL career – the second-most in Chargers history – in their 27-17 win over the Tennesse Titans.

Nick Bosa recorded a sack for a third straight week, taking down his old nemesis Baker Mayfield despite battling a hip injury that he felt had an impact on his play in the San Francisco 49ers’ 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The best performance of the week by a former Ohio State defensive end came courtesy of Chase Young, who led the entire NFL with nine quarterback pressures in Week 10, according to NFL Pro’s Next Gen Stats. Those nine pressures included a crucial strip sack in the game’s final minute. While the fumble was recovered by the Atlanta Falcons, it led to a game-sealing turnover on downs in the New Orleans Saints’ 20-17 win.

Terry tops 100 again
Ten weeks into the 2024 season, Terry McLaurin has already tied his career-high for 100-yard games in a season.
McLaurin hit triple digits for the fourth time this year on Sunday as he caught five passes for 113 yards in the Washington Commanders’ narrow defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers. His day included a speedy 54-yard catch-and-run and a fantastic 28-yard grab along the left sideline.

Marv up to six touchdowns
Marvin Harrison Jr. scored his sixth touchdown in just 10 NFL games – tying McLaurin, among others, for the fourth-most in the league this year – when he made a clean over-the-shoulder catch in the end zone for a 9-yard score in the second quarter of the Arizona Cardinals’ win over the New York Jets.

The Cardinals rolled to their fourth straight victory on Sunday, defeating the Jets 31-6. The Cardinals’ other young star from Ohio State, former Buckeye left tackle Paris Johnson Jr., also made a big impact in the win, leading the way on their first touchdown of the game with a lane-clearing pancake block.

After the game, Harrison – who had five total catches for 54 yards on the day – participated in a jersey exchange with his former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson, who had five catches for 41 yards in the Jets’ loss.

A tale of two halves for Stroud
Halfway through the Houston Texans’ Sunday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions, C.J. Stroud looked to be on track for one of his best games of the season. The second-year NFL quarterback from Ohio State completed 14 of 20 passing attempts before halftime for 164 yards, capped off a perfectly placed pass in between two defenders to John Metchie III for a 15-yard touchdown that gave his team a 23-7 lead.

Unfortunately for Stroud and the Texans, that would be the final time they would score on Sunday night. Stroud struggled throughout the second half, completing just five of 13 passing attempts for 68 yards while throwing two interceptions, and the Lions scored 19 unanswered points to defeat the Texans, 26-23.
The performance continued what’s been a more up-and-down second season for Stroud than his spectacular rookie year, as he’s already thrown more interceptions in 2024 (six) than he did in 2023 (five). That’s far from being his fault alone, as the Texans’ offensive line has been a liability and their top two receivers (Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs) are sidelined by injuries, but Stroud put the blame on himself for Sunday’s scoreless second half.

McQuaide reaches 14 seasons
Heyward wasn’t the only 14th-year NFL player from Ohio State to play in Week 10.
Jake McQuaide officially became a 14-year NFL veteran, tying Heyward for the longest-tenured NFL player from Ohio State, when he was elevated to the Minnesota Vikings’ active roster and made his first game appearance of the 2024 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Filling in for the Vikings’ usual starting long snapper, Andrew DePaola, who was placed on injured reserve with a hand injury, McQuaide played an important role in the Vikings’ victory, snapping the ball back to John Parker Romo on all four of his field goals, the Vikings’ only points in their 12-7 win.
Webb named All-CFL
While we focus primarily on NFL players from Ohio State in Across The Shield, another former Buckeye playing north of the border deserves a shoutout for his professional football performance this season.
In his third season as a member of the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks and fourth CFL season overall, former Ohio State safety Damon Webb earned All-CFL honors for the first time as he had a standout season in which he recorded 69 tackles with five interceptions – including two pick-sixes in one game – plus two sacks and a forced fumble.

The Redblacks went 9-8-1 during the 2024 regular season before losing to the Toronto Argonauts in the semifinal round of the playoffs.
Quick Hits
- Jamarco Jones (Lions) and Tommy Togiai (Texans) made their season debuts on Sunday Night Football after they were elevated from the practice squads of their respective teams. Togiai recorded three tackles and a pass deflection in his Texans debut while Jones played one snap as a sixth offensive lineman in his first Lions game appearance.
- Jordan Fuller (Carolina Panthers) and Jonah Jackson (Los Angeles Rams) each returned to action in Week 10 after stints on injured reserve. Fuller, who missed six games with a hamstring injury, recorded six tackles in his return to action. Jackson, who missed six games with a shoulder injury, started at center for the Rams on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins.
- Baron Browning played 18 snaps off the bench and recorded two quarterback pressures in his first game with the Cardinals, who acquired him in a trade with the Broncos last week.
- Marshon Lattimore was inactive for his first game with the Commanders, who acquired him in a trade with the Saints last week, while continuing to recover from a hamstring injury.
- Chris Olave was placed on injured reserve by the Saints after suffering a concussion in Week 9 that required him to be stretchered off the field. Olave will be out for at least three more weeks, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that he might not return this season as he consults with specialists after suffering four concussions in three NFL seasons.
- Despite recording 45 tackles and making four starts in the New England Patriots’ first nine games of the season, Raekwon McMillan was released by the Patriots on Friday. He is now on the team’s practice squad.
- DaVon Hamilton had his second seven-tackle game in three weeks, tying his season-high, in the Jaguars’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
- Curtis Samuel had a season-high four receptions for 35 yards in the Buffalo Bills’ win over the Indianapolis Colts.
- Jeremy Ruckert caught two passes for a season-high 17 yards in the Jets’ loss to the Cardinals.
