Luke Montgomery is making his first career start in Ohio State's College Football Playoff matchup with Texas.

After two games rotating with Austin Siereveld at left guard for Ohio State as Siereveld also swung to right guard to roll with Tegra Tshabola, Montgomery took the field to start for Sierveld alongside center Carson Hinzman and left tackle Donovan Jackson. Tshabola and right tackle, the team's other two regular starters, filled out the remaining starting front five.

The Buckeyes' guard rotation bore sweet fruits for their offense after a bad outing for their offensive line against Michigan. Ohio State has yet to surrender a sack in the College Football Playoff and rushed the ball for 4.7 yards per carry against Tennessee in the first round then 5.8 yards per carry against Oregon in the quarterfinals.

Montgomery played 31 snaps vs. the Volunteers, recording a pancake block that sprang TreVeyon Henderson for a 29-yard touchdown, and 29 snaps vs. the Ducks.
