Ryan Day has named the successor to Jim Knowles, and let’s just say many Ohio State fans aren’t exactly sure how to feel about the decision to bring Matt Patricia to Columbus.
On one hand, Patricia had great success as a defensive coordinator with the New England Patriots and the Buckeyes just got done successfully completing another NFL reclamation project in the form of Chip Kelly. On the other, Patricia’s most recent high-profile endeavor with the Detroit Lions was an absolute disaster and it’s easy to discredit his previous accomplishments as merely riding the coattails of Bill Belichick.
Johnny and I debate the reasons for optimism and pessimism about this hire on this week’s episode of The Eleven Dubcast. I make every attempt to quell Johnny’s skepticism despite having my own original reservations about Patricia going back to when it was first announced he was a candidate for this job.
Additionally, the Dubcast discussion also covers:
- Day seems determined to make the co-coordinator model work for the Buckeyes. How should fans feel about that given how the Coombs/Barnes disaster played out only a few years ago?
- Ask Us Anything — writers to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com this week inquired about many topics, such as what is the best vegetable?
- Some folks did not appreciate the Dubcast not calling Ohio State a lock for March Madness last week. Well, over the weekend, the odds for OSU to go dancing went down noticeably!
- Despite a great overall game between the Buckeyes and TTUN, a tough ending left a bad taste in the mouths of many supporters. How crucial was this result towards the Dusty May/Jake Diebler debate given the closeness of the result and Michigan’s overall success this season in contrast to that of Ohio State?
- Jim Tressel is now lieutenant governor of Ohio. How much of the vote would he get for Mike DeWine’s gig when the time comes?
And that does it for the Dubcast this week! Watch the show now on YouTube above, listen via the mini player below or visit our Transistor page for links to other listening options such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and more.
