The No. 4 Ohio State women’s hockey Bucks rolled into Wisconsin this week for a showdown with the No. 1 Badgers. Bucky got the drop on OSU early. The Badgers posted three goals in a dominant first period and cruised to a 7-0 victory.

Scoring by Period 1 2 3 Final
No. 4 Ohio State 0 0 0 0
No. 1 Wisconsin 3 0 4 7

Wisconsin chucked 20 shots on goal in the opening frame to Ohio State’s one. Baylee Wellhausen netted Wisconsin’s opening goal at the 3:27 mark, scoring on a breakaway. A few minutes later Presley Norby took advantage of space in the slot and traffic in front of Kassidy Sauve to add to the Badgers’ lead. Midway through the period the Buckeyes took a pair of penalties in quick succession. Abby Roque made it 3-0 Wisconsin with a 5-on-3 power play goal.

Ohio State stemmed the flood of Badger goals in the second period. The Buckeyes put six shots on Kristen Campbell, but the UW goalie turned each one aside. The final stanza began with the game still somewhat in reach for OSU. Then Wisconsin piled on a crushing quartet of tallies to claim a 7-0 victory.

Bucky outshot the Ohio State 42-14 in the game. Wisconsin was 2-for-5 on their power play opportunities. The Badgers steered clear of the penalty box themselves. They did not provide the Buckeyes with an advantage in the game.

So the Bucks suffer their first lost of the year, dropping to 7-1-1 overall and 5-1-1-1 in the WCHA. The teams meet again tomorrow afternoon at 1pm ET. Ohio State will look to rebound and give Wisconsin a much tougher game.
