The women’s hockey Buckeyes skated into Friday’s tilt with Minnesota State looking to get back on the winning track. They did just that. Ohio State had to come from behind, but the Buckeyes rallied for a 2-1 victory. The win brings the Bucks’ season record to 8-2-1 overall and 6-2-1-1 in the WCHA.

Minnesota State got on the board first. Brittyn Fleming tucked a wraparound in with 10 seconds to play in the opening period. The goal lit a fire under the Buckeyes. The Scarlet and Gray came screaming out of the break and fired 20 shots on goal in the second period. Mavs netminder Kathryn Bidulka withstood the onslaught for a long time but late in the frame Lauren Spring finally beat the veteran goaltender.

Ohio State’s assault continued in the third period. Again it was just a matter of time before the Buckeyes found pay dirt. With five minutes left on the clock Maddy Field struck for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. That would be your game winner as the Bucks claimed a 2-1 victory.
Freshman goalie Amanda Zeglen made her first collegiate start in net, filling in for regular starter Kassidy Sauve. Zeglen stopped 12 shots in the contest. She picks up her first career win.
Ohio State outshot Minnesota State 42-13 in the contest. Neither side recorded a power play goal. The Buckeyes went 0-for-2 with the advantage. The Mavericks were 0-for-1.
