After coming up short in Friday’s contest No. 4 Ohio State clearly had no intention of being swept in New York. The Bucks were out for blood today. They put a quarter of their shots in the back of the net en route to a 6-1 victory.

Scoring by Period 1 2 3 Final
No. 4 Ohio State 3 2 1 6
No. 10 St. Lawrence 1 0 0 1

Jacyn Reeves fired the opening salvo, scoring her first goal of the season less than three minutes into the tilt. Emma Maltais and Charly Dahlquist assisted on the play. The trio struck again a few shifts later. This time it was Dahlquist with the goal. Maltais and Reeves had the helpers. Before the first intermission, Dahlquist set the goal light flashing once more.

It’s not a puck drop. It’s a mic drop. Dahlquist finished the day with two goals (including the official game winner) and two assists. She also went 17-for-27 in the faceoff circle and blocked a shot for good measure.

Buckeye Goal Scorers (Assists) Pd Time
Jacyn Reeves (Emma Maltais, Charly Dahlquist) 1 2:46
Charly Dahlquist (Emma Maltais, Jacyn Reeves) 1 5:36
Charly Dahlquist (Jincy Dunne, Sophie Jaques) 1 12:20
Sara Saekkinen (Jincy Dunne, Sophie Jaques) 2 13:46
Tatum Skaggs (Lauren Boyle, Maddy Field) 2 19:36
SH EN - Emma Maltais (Charly Dahlquist) 3 11:41

The Buckeyes kept the pedal down in the second period. They piled on two more goals. Freshman Sara Saekkinen netted the first score of her collegiate career. Then Tatum Skaggs delivered a dagger with just 24 seconds left before the intermission.

Midway through the third period, down 5-1 and with nothing to lose at that point, the Saints rolled the dice. They went on a power play and pulled Sonjia Shelly for the extra attacker. But the Buckeyes could not be stopped today. Not even with a 6-on-4 advantage. Maltais hammered home a shorthanded empty-netter.

Maltais’ shot was one of few for the Buckeyes in the third period. St. Lawrence, to its credit, worked furiously to ignite a rally in the final frame. The Saints outshot the Bucks 22-4 in the third. Andrea Braendli and the OSU defense had their hands full but they were up to the task.

Braendli finished the game with 42 total saves. It is the third time in her last four starts that the freshman has recorded 40+ stops. Braendli is now 4-3-0 on the season with a 1.86 GAA and .947 save percentage. Five of her seven starts have come against top-10 teams.

This win brings No. 4 Ohio State to 7-3-0 on the season. The Bucks are back in Columbus next week for a return to conference play. OSU hosts St. Cloud in a WCHA series beginning on Friday at 6pm ET and continuing Saturday at 3pm ET.
