The women’s hockey Bucks keep raking in the accolades. Sophomore Emma Maltais is the latest to be honored. The WCHA dubbed her its Forward of the Month, Powered by GoodWood Hockey, for September/October. It is her fifth career player of the month honor.
OSU Women's Hockey | Week | Awards and Accolades |
---|---|---|
Andrea Braendli, Fr. G | No. 3 | WCHA Rookie of the Week |
Andrea Braendli, Fr. G | No. 4 | WCHA Goalie of the Week |
Charly Dahlquist, Sr. F | No. 5 | WCHA Forward of the Week |
Emma Maltais, So. F | No. 5 | WCHA Forward of the Month |
Maltais was nigh unstoppable through the first five weeks of the season. She posted points in eight of Ohio State’s ten games. Six of those outings resulted in multiple points.
To date, the Burlington Bullet owns 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists). She ranks No. 1 in the WCHA and No. 2 in the NCAA in assists as well as total points. She is producing points at a conference-topping 1.50 per game rate.
Maltais is a well-rounded scorer with even strength, power play, and shorthanded goals to her credit. But lethal as her shot is, she proved even deadlier as a playmaker, especially in clutch situations. Maltais set up five of OSU’s eight game-winning goals. Bottom line, if she's got the puck on her stick, Buckeye fans should take note and Buckeye opponents should watch out.
Minnesota sophomore Emily Brown (2-4--6, 13 blocked shots) is the WCHA’s Defenseman of the Month. Minnesota State freshman Abigail Levy (228 saves, .954 save percentage) is the conference’s Goaltender of the Month. Wisconsin sophomore Sophie Shirley (6-4--10) is the Rookie of the Month.
OSU senior defender Jincy Dunne and freshman goaltender Andrea Braendli each earned honorable mentions for monthly awards. Dunne garnered notice for Defenseman of the Month for her eight points and 19 blocked shots. Braendli was in the mix for both Rookie and Goalie of the Month after posting a .947 save percentage through seven games.
No. 4 Ohio State (7-3-0, 3-1-0-0 WCHA) is back at the OSU Ice Rink this week hosting conference foe St. Cloud State. Games are scheduled for Friday at 6pm ET and Saturday at 3pm ET. As always, we will preview the series for you tomorrow afternoon and recap the action each night.
