Ohio State escaped with a 68-55 win over Wisconsin, but the story of the game wasn't the final score or the outcome, but the scary injury to Ohio State's Makayla Waterman.
There is now good news coming out of Madison. From Ohio State athletic trainer Chalisa Fonza:
"Makayla was taken to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation. As far as we know, she has full function in all of her extremities and is doing well."
Later on Saturday evening, Waterman herself updated us on her status.
Waterman took a hard, backwards fall towards the end of the third quarter as she went for an offensive rebound. As she fell, Waterman appeared to hit her neck and head on the leg of a Wisconsin player and immediately grabbed the back of her neck upon hitting the floor.
The training staff immediately tended to Waterman. They stabilized her neck and took her off the court on a stretcher. Waterman was then taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
Before she left, she was able to give a slight smile to her teammates, who closed the game with a big fourth quarter to seal the win.
