Social media had plenty of jokes after a recruit attending Michigan’s “BBQ at the Big House” posted a photo of a meal that hardly looked like it belonged at a barbecue.
Instead, a plate posted by 2025 Detroit three-star wide receiver Elijah Dotson looked more like it belonged in an elementary school cafeteria. Rather than pulled pork, brisket, ribs or any of the other foods typically associated with a barbecue, the meal shown consisted of a hot dog, chicken tenders, mac and cheese, tater tots and a chocolate chip cookie.

In an age where most top college football programs have their own chefs on staff to cook meals for players and recruits, Michigan’s underwhelming barbecue fare got roasted on Twitter, with some making the connection between the meal served on Sunday and Jim Harbaugh allegedly committing NCAA violations by buying hamburgers for recruits off-campus.
Okay, so now I understand why harbaugh wants to get off campus and eat two burgers for breakfast https://t.co/c1Wb0He8Jv

Honestly the BBQ at the big house food has me more upset than Michigan going 0-2 on recruits this same weekend.

While one prospect’s plate is not necessarily representative of all the food that was available at Michigan on Sunday, it nevertheless led to plenty of jokes at the Wolverines’ expense on a day when they were looking to impress some of their top targets in their final opportunity to host recruits on campus before the season starts.
Notable prospects who were set to attend Sunday’s event at Michigan included five-star offensive tackle David Sanders, five-star safety DJ Pickett, five-star Ohio cornerback Dorian Brew, four-star Ohio quarterback Ryan Montgomery and four-star 2024 safety Zaquan Patterson, among others.
