Ohio State alumnus Hunter Armstrong is set to return to Olympic competition in Paris as part of the USA team, three years after emerging from Tokyo as a gold medalist.

In 2021 Armstrong qualified in the 100-m backstroke. He did not make the final individually in that event, but was also added to the USA 4×100-m medley relay team that eventually won gold. This year he has qualified for the USA 4×100-m men's relay team. Whether he also qualifies again in backstroke, where he was runner up in trials, remains TBD.
