After a successful first season in Columbus, Chris Holtmann finished the season third in the voting for Associated Press Coach of the Year. 

The winner was Virginia's Tony Bennett, who had his Cavaliers as the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament before being upset by No. 16 seed UMBC in the first round. The voting however, was done before the start of the tournament. 

Second place was occupied by Tennessee's Rick Barnes.
