Everyone has a name that they will always associate with their favorite team and program. For me, in regards to the Women's Basketball program, that name is Nancy Darsch.
Coach Darsch served as the Ohio State Women's basketball coach from 1985 until 1997, compiling a record of 234-125, with a Final Four appearance, and a narrow title game loss to Texas Tech in 1993, with four regular-season Big Ten titles. She was also the coach of one of the greatest Women's basketball players of all time, in Katie Smith.
After moving on from Ohio State, she served as the first head coach of the NY Liberty, and coached in the WNBA's first game, and led the Liberty to the league's first championship game. Additionally, she served as an assistant coach for both the 1984 and 1996 US Olympic Women's basketball team, winning two gold medals.
Today, at the age of 68, she has passed away. Rest in Peace, coach.
