With Coach Vic's Weekly Showcase kicking off last Sunday, the headline performer was Ohio State commit and Westerville South senior center Kaleb Wesson. While Wesson's dominant performance in the post, which led his team to an event-best 6-1 record on the day, was certainly impressive, it was the 6-foot-10 big man's weight loss that was most encouraging.
As we updated earlier in the summer, Wesson has been focusing on dropping weight and improving as an athlete, and many in the Columbus area were able to witness it first hand at the event. Running the floor with ease and rising up for dunks, something that is a bit of a rarity for Wesson, the Buckeye commit was by far the most dominant performer in the event, which bodes well for Ohio State.
Wesson will be back on Sunday as Coach Vic's resumes for week two, which will feature not only the Westerville South stud, but several other Ohio State targets. Those prospects include:
- 6'8 2018 Cincinnati Princeton SF Darius Bazley - OSU offer
- 6'7 2018 Pickerington North SF Jerome Hunter - OSU interest, WVU, PSU offers
- 6'10 2018 Chillicothe Paint Valley C Dylan Swingle - OSU interest, WVU offer
- 6'5 2018 Versailles SG Justin Ahrens - OSU interest
- 6'9 2019 Worthington Christian PF Taylor Currie - OSU interest
- 6'3 2019 Pickerington Central PG Jeremiah Francis - OSU interest
The event will tip off at 12 p.m. at Reynoldsburg High School (on Livingston Avenue) and is free to the public to attend. Check out Wesson and more against some of the state's top players in the highlights of last week's action below.
News and Notes
- One of Ohio State's top targets, 2018 shooting guard Dwayne Cohill, is apparently high on Michigan, despite not receiving an offer yet. In an interview with MLive.com, Cohill said he's willing to wait for Michigan to offer him, saying "I love coach (John Beilein), so I told him to just take his time." You can check out the rest of the article here. Receiving an offer from Ohio State earlier in the summer, Cohill has racked up offers from programs all over the country, including UNLV, Northwestern, Penn State, Xavier and West Virginia, after a strong summer AAU performance.
- Ohio State added yet another guard to its recruiting board in 2017, extending an offer to 6-foot-2 shooting guard Thomas Allen, of Brewster Academy. Originally from Garner, NC, the same city that produced John Wall and David West, Allen is not ranked by 247 Sports, but has 19 offers from programs ranging from East Carolina to Virginia Tech.
